Buying an ATM is a straightforward investment, but choosing the right machine for your specific business makes a big difference in reliability, user experience, and long-term profitability. Here’s what to consider.
Indoor vs. Outdoor
The first decision is placement. Indoor ATMs are smaller, lighter, and less expensive. Outdoor or through-the-wall ATMs are built to withstand weather and are more secure, but they cost more and require more complex installation. Most Texas businesses — bars, restaurants, convenience stores — use indoor freestanding models.
Transaction Volume
If your location processes fewer than 100 transactions per month, a basic single-cassette ATM is fine. Higher-volume locations (200+ transactions/month) benefit from dual-cassette machines that hold more cash and reduce the frequency of refills.
Brand Matters
We recommend sticking with established ATM manufacturers that have strong support networks and readily available parts:

Modern ATMs connect via Ethernet (wired internet) or cellular modem. If your location has reliable internet, wired is cheaper to operate. If not — or if the ATM is in a location without a network drop — a cellular modem adds about $30–$50/month but provides a dedicated, reliable connection.
EMV and NFC
All new ATMs should support EMV (chip card) readers. NFC (tap-to-withdraw) is becoming more common and is a nice-to-have for locations with tech-savvy customers. Both features are standard on current-generation machines from major brands.
What About Used ATMs?
